During the launch of the GenU partnership in September 2018, The President of Kenya HE Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta was endorsed as a global champion for the young people’s agenda.
CS Joe Mucheru
Hon. Joseph Mucheru was nominated by H.E. Uhuru Kenyatta in in June 2019 as Kenya’s representative to the GenU Global Board. In February 2020, in recognition of his valuable expertise, Cabinet Secretary Mucheru was appointed to the Generation Unlimited Executive Committee (now known as Board of Trustees) where he currently serves.
National Steering Committee
The National Steering Committee was established in April 2019 to offer strategic leadership and implementation oversight on GenU activities in Kenya in liaison with GenU Global Board. The committee of 37 members is co-chaired by Deputy Chief of Staff, Executive Office of the President and UN Resident Coordinator. The 35 Organizations have representation from government, multilateral and bilateral agencies; private sector, youth serving organizations and development partners.
To support the Steering committee and GenU Multi-Stakeholder Partnerships, a GenU Kenya National secretariat was established in April 2019 at the Executive Office of the President based at the Presidential Policy and Strategy Unit, for smooth coordination, monitoring and reporting of efforts enhancing youth access to education, skills training and employment opportunities.
